USHPA RISK ASSESSMENT

Elevation: 7,610’

Landing zone: 6,000’ (1,600’ below)

Parking: here

Requirements: P3 or P2 with site intro

This is our most convenient and reliable hike and fly site for wings of all sizes. It’s located on the most SW prominence of the Boulder Mountains overlooking Sun Valley and Trail Cr. road. It’s used mostly in summer, but if you enjoy boot-packing like Donnie, it’s a great winter option too. It has E, S and W launching aspects. Summer evening can provide good soaring. Club members use Sun Peak to start XC flights before we can drive up Baldy in the spring and after the summer lifts stop running in September). Sun Peak stands in the middle of the valley wind, so launching here mid day in the summer is not advisable.

Do not land on the golf course! Also, do not come in low to the active firing range that’s located nearby on trail cr road and land there while yelling “hold your fire” like a visiting pilot did in the recent past.
