RESTRICTIONS CONTINUE FOR FLYING BALDY
Entering this winter season, Sun Valley Paragliders club is still unable to meet the insurance demands of AIG. The RRRG is not currently offering the policy our club needs. We do not know when this policy will be available again, although the board of directors believes that it may be unrealistic to expect it to be available within the next 2 months or that it will be available for the same rate ($15,000.00). Therefore, paragliders remain unable to ride the lifts or land on Sun Valley property. Concerning hike & flying on Baldy, the club asks all members and visiting pilots to obey Sun Valley's uphill traffic regulations, not to fly during operating hours from any in-bounds areas on Baldy, and most importantly not to land on Sun Valley property. The board of directors is actively seeking landing zone options that we can officially recommend to the club, and appreciate any ideas for solving this problem.
Visiting pilots are welcome!
Sun Valley Paragliders is a fantastic community of people to fly with in the enchanting Idaho skies. Whether you’re chasing long scenic sledders, glassy alpenglow soaring sessions, the continents farthest XC lines, or trying to tickle the FAA ultralight ceiling, Sun Valley is a great place to fly when the conditions are good (or enjoy an endless array of other grounding activities when the conditions are bad). Regardless of your skill set, we hope you’ll join us!
Please obey our club rules and help us ensure that Bald Mountain continues to be one of the premier paragliding sites in North America. Most of our sites are accessed via 4x4 vehicle or on foot and are non-regulated sites, located on public lands. However, Bald Mountain (9100' MSL) is a regulated, USHPA insured, paragliding site. Access is either by Sun Valley Resort lifts (foot passes for sale at River Run base lodge), Fly Sun Valley’s permitted vehicle aka “Chuck’s Truck” ($15/ride), or by foot. You must have a current club membership to fly this site.
